14 Faces of SELF Sharing the Same Eyes (2024)
Henry Jones Art Prize, Hobart, Tasmania, 2024.

14 Faces of SELF Sharing the Same Eyes. 2024.
14 Faces of SELF brings together portraits of fourteen participants photographed during a single public presentation of SELF. Layered and dissolved in sequence, the fourteen faces resolve into a single composite image — edges misaligned, features merged and softened, the individual face giving way to something collective and unfamiliar. What remains precise and unwavering across all fourteen subjects is the eyes: held at the same fixed point, the shared gaze of the SELF experience.
Shortlisted for the 2024 Henry Jones Emerging Art Prize.
Didactic lifted from the 2024 program.
“I think it’s a unique opportunity to have all those subjects in the one spot, the same spot at different times, experiencing the same thing individually. This collection of photographs, captured during their intimate experiences are laid out on top of each other. Seeing them see all together, it almost unifies them to the same moment of experience, all happening at the same time.”
SELF is an experiential artwork by Harry Holcombe-James, providing a technologically mediated mediation with the self.
